Much news for the new year!

Happy New Year from the Amorium Team!

There is a lot to report for 2008. First, there is a new article on Amorium by the Assistant Director, Prof. Eric Ivison:

“Amorium in the Byzantine Dark Ages (Seventh to Ninth Centuries),” in J. Henning (ed.), Post-Roman Towns, Trade and Settlement in Europe and Byzantium. Vol. 2: Byzantium, Pliska, and the Balkans, Millennium - Studien / Millennium Studies / Studien zu Kultur und Geschichte des ersten Jahrtausends n. Chr. / Studies in the Culture and History of the First Millennium C.E. 5/2, Berlin 2007, 25-60.

The city of Amorium (and the excavation) has also been recognized as being a critical component in understanding the Byzantine economy; in the recently published The Byzantine Economy, the authors, Angeliki E. Laiou and Céclie Morrison, acknowledge the director, Dr. Chris Lightfoot, for his discussion of the excavation findings.

Finally, we have a number of photos (taken by Dr. Lightfoot) at Amorium in the winter.
